Dr. Tim Baker MB ChB PhD is a Researcher and Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at College of Medicine and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi and at Karolinska Institute and Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden.

He has previously worked in Tanzania and has been involved in global health systems research for 15 years. He is the founder of the Life Support Foundation that aims to improve the care of critically ill patients where resources are scarce.


Since 2016 he has been based in Malawi, coordinating the Sugar FACT clinical trial and other projects. His research interests include global critical care, investigating the quality of hospital services, developing and implementing interventions to improve the care and outcomes of critically ill patients, sepsis and hypoglycaemia.
